NASCAR Hall Of Famer Passes. RIP Buddy Baker
Met Buddy twice in my life. He was an Uncle to my close friend Butch Baker.
To him and his family I say God Bless and God Speed.
One of the nicest guys anywhere.

          RIP Mr. Baker.

I first met Mr. Baker at the Oceanside Rotary Club Hall of Fame induction of Marshall Teague and Tim Flock at the Daytona Beach Hilton back in 1995. I was (still am) a nobody that just happened to be a guest of an attendee of this function. He was as personable and as warm to me and my companion as he was to all of the VIP's who were there.

Mr. Baker was the first man to officially go 200 MPH in a NASCAR stock car and may still hold the record for the fastest 500 miles at Daytona.

Mr. Baker was a class act from beginning to end and for the most part raced clean.

          You will be missed, sir.

Godspeed Buddy! You were my hero growing up in a Nascar family. I won $13 in a grandstand pool at one of the Twin 125s back in 1973 by betting on you. You were a class act and will be missed!

My dad helped Buck and Buddy a few years each and Buddy was easy to set the car up for, all he cared about was fast. He would manhandle the car with pure power and treated his helpers well.--Leonard

NASCAR was good in the days when they had drivers with personality like Buddy, Cale, David, Richard, Bobby, Neil, Benny (probably forgetting a few)and Dale and DW when they first started!! Now with all the money involved sponsors won't allow personality!! Most of these new guys are bland as h@ll!! Throw in some of these (not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word) new tracks and closing down the good ones they ruined the sport. RIP Buddy you were a good guy with character!!

The sport of auto racing has lost one of the great story tellers of all time. Rest in peace Buddy.
