Saw McGrath at cedar lake for USA nationals very impressed, I believe he had fast time! Like to see him try his hand at Eldora.

            George Scheffler.

maybe when an event is named after someone, that's enough to note the name is something special to race fans in the area. and i'm glad tracks take the time to honor these individuals.

but as I get older, I often wonder if current race fans appreciate why a race is named after an individual...

not sure what a google search for "George Scheffler" shows. so it's up to the younger fans to talk to the old timers about why a race honors a legend and why that person is so deserving.

there is a lot of history that dirt on dirt and the internet can't provide. and as generations pass, those stories are lost forever.

George Scheffler was a pretty dang good driver in his own right. He unfortunately lost his life a few years back in a snowmobiling accident. Anyone familiar with dirt track racing in Wisconsin will know the name Scheffler. Familiarity with that name will not wane in any of our lifetimes. Russ Scheffler, George's son still wheels a late model along with another son Rick Scheffler. Grandson Taylor Scheffler has had some impressive runs this year in a late model and another grandson, Mitch McGrath, set fast time at the USA Nationals and ran very strong at Shawano in the WoO show. Some pretty darn good bloodlines in that group and there are many others that are connected to the Scheffler family.
