Just got confirmation from work and will be making my first trip to the World. Is it too late to get a decent camping spot somewhere close to the track?

Yeah, probably. They have taken off spots for camping on the Eldora website (which just means you have to get one when you get there). Pretty much anything you can get at this point will be on the far reachs of the track.
But don't let that stop ya! No matter where you are, you're STILL at the World 100!!!

Looking for a reserved camping spot in LOT 1? I may have one available.

A word to the wise in reference to camping at the World Hundred.
BE CERTAIN TO SECURELY LOCK DOWN EVERYTHING THAT YOU DO NOT WANT STOLEN. There are thieves amongst you looking for easy pickings and also believe this, the local law enforcement does not seem to concern themselves very much with your loss if it should occur.
The thieves do not play favorites in regards to campsite location, either. These are equal opportunity thieves.
There are those here who will site the fact that they've had nothing touched in X number of years camping at the World and that's great, but it can and will and has happened numerous times over the years so beware.
Hope you have a great time but just be advised and take the necessary precautions.

Wouldn't you just love to walk back to your site unexpectedly and see some thieving jabroni trying to walk off with your generator.......thieves suck, too few of them are being shot during the act now adays.Originally posted by CIRF View PostA word to the wise in reference to camping at the World Hundred.

Thanks for the kind words BBQB. Nice to see ya' around again. Haven't seen ya' 'round these parts lately!Originally posted by Barbecueboy View PostWouldn't you just love to walk back to your site unexpectedly and see some thieving jabroni trying to walk off with your generator.......thieves suck, too few of them are being shot during the act now adays.

BBQB, your statement about catching them in the act and too few of the pond scum thieves being shot in the act is spot on. Problem is if ya' kill 'em or even if ya' just wound 'em the shooter goes to jail, sometimes for a long time. Seems upside down ta' me but it's the way things have become in this land nowadays.
Our group quit going to the World Hundred several years ago. Couldn't afford to go anymore. In just 3 years our group had a golf cart and a 3000 watt Honda generator stolen that amounted to about $6000.00 in value. Although the golf cart was insured it still cost the owner the deductable ($1000.00) and the Honda generator, since it was 4 years old, the prorated value set by the insurance company was below the policy deductable so the owner got squat. They were both secured with cable to the extent that we believed that they were safe to leave at the campsite while we attended the races. If there's a will I reckon there's a way.
Cops acted like it was a bother for them to investigate, and I believe they thought it was.
As I said before, when camping at the World, there are thieves among you who might also coincidentally be race fans.
We now opt for the 4 Crown Nationals 2 weeks later. Smaller crowd=much more comfortable and a lot fewer thieves and a$$holes. Love the racing just as much.

For God's sake creepy stalker, go back and read the posts! I personally wasn't the victim, it was 2 of our group that camped together. I haven't lost anything at Eldora since I don't own a golf cart and my gen-set is fully integrated within our 5th wheel camper. Like I said in the first post, there are always some fortunate folks, and creepy stalkers like yourself, whose luck has held up. That is if you're not making up all the bull$hit about camping at the World, which I find to be a distinct possibility.Originally posted by retired racer View PostCIRF hate to say it but you were a target because of who you are nobody else seems to have a problem, we've been camping with the same group for twenty-five years never tied any thing down never lost a thing they just know your a prick he he he.
Also, a good friend that went for a few years after we quit going had a golf cart stolen and I was 300 miles away so you weird theory just went down the toilet along with all your other theory's. Hehehehe!!

Cirf........good to see you pop up again too and yeah, the hall monitors and crossing guards sent me to the principals office for a while.
I'm going out on a limb and not really calling any names, but the folks that say they just leave their stuff lay around and unsecure with no problems at a big race probably don't have anything worth stealing.
Thieves don't steal junk and worthless crap.
I had the pleasure of walking up on a couple fine citizens trying to break into my daughters car one night when I had just made a three hr. Journey home from the track ...bout 4 in the am.
They never saw or heard me coming around the house, but I made sure they heard me chamber the round...............turns out they were a couple of 15 year old kids from the neighborhood trying to steal change to buy cigarettes.
Should have made them crap their pants and then make them put their underwear on their head, but I didn't....made em sweat it, acted like I called the law and then ran them off when the law didn't show..........they actually turned out to be some ok kids later on and of course I became the crazy sawed off shotgun toting lunatic at the end of the street.
A label which was perfectly fine with me back then.
But yes, thieves suck........Where is the move over flag when you need it?????
