What is the MPG these cars get? Was just curious.

5 gallons of methanol burned in a ten lap heat race on a half mile is about right...

Now if you're running a Prius set-up all bets are off.

That brings a good topic up, what fuels are open guys running in open late models? I was under the assumption it was all high octane race gas, but from Krooser's post are some running methanol?

Most are on methanol unless it's a 'gas only' class. I don't think you'll see Bloomer or Davenport tipping a red gas can to fuel their cars.

Weekly shows are a different deal. Most late models around my home run methanol. Some guys run race gas or a mix of race gas and aviation gas. A few use E85 or E98.

Modifieds are a mixed bag, too. Depends on compression ratio and driver/owners preference.

Most street/pure/factory stocks run gasoline only but, again, local track rules prevail.

Most lucas and outlaws are on gas because of setups from fuel burn off. They cant run these 100 laps races on methanol or these 50 lappers there cell would be empty

The touring guys are pretty much all on high octane gas. Color of the jug has nothing to do with what's in it.
The only guy that I'm aware that was running methanol some this season was Landers.

Yup I remember qualifying on alky and heats on alky then switch over to gas for the feature.

Your mileage may vary, depending on how much HP you make and how much of it you use. A petal to the metal tacky momentum track will use more than a feather foot slick one.

Thanks for clarifying. I have only worked on IMCA late models and we always ran a high octane gas. The A-mods/open mods run methanol but the sport/b mods run gas(110 octane or a pump/110 mix).

I know that many years ago some people ran alcohol. I believe most run racing GAS. As one person stated the amount of alcohol you burn is too much for a 32 gal fuel cell and switching back and forth is a lot of work. Change carburetor. And drain the fuel cell.

Yes it was a lot of work I believe about 13 yrs ago most Lucas and WoO guys have been running race gas exclusively
