Ultimate to sanction Volunteer's Scorcher in 2016 on August Bristol NASCAR weekend.

Ultimate Series to sanction Volunteer's Scorcher on August Bristol NASCAR weekend.

Volunteer Speedway's 13th Annual Scorcher, the Bulls Gap, Tenn., track's complement to NASCAR's August racing weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway, will be sanctioned by the Ultimate Super Late Model Series in 2016, the series announced today.

The purse for the Aug. 18 event frequently sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series over the past eight seasons, hasn't been decided.

The Georgia based Ultimate Series has made three previous trips to Volunteer but none since since 2012. Tennessee driver Chad Ogle of Sevierville, Vic Hill of Mosheim, and Jimmy Owens of Newport are the Ultimate winners at the high-banked oval.

Ultimate officials plan to announce the complete 2016 schedule during the Dec. 10-12 Performance Racing Industry Trade Show in Indianapolis, Ind. __ Series reports.

That place is committed to having Lucas there during a NASCAR weekend it seems. Heard somewhere Lucas offered them a date in early April that turned out being the Boyd's/EAMS weekend but Volunteer Speedway declined because it wasn't the weekend NASCAR was at Bristol.

Really weak car counts in 13 and 14. Low to mid 20s from what I remember. Too bad they couldn't coordinate something with Tazewell, Gap, and Bristol. Would love to go to Tazewell but hard to justify 12 hours for one day events.

They seem to think that's the only way they can draw a crowd for a Lucas race. The crowds at Tazewell and Smoky Mtn. for their Lucas races say otherwise. At least they are still having that race.

The two are no longer the same race fan. NASCAR fans are not race fans, they like entertainment....
