$38,000 UFo “2016 World Blastoff†at Port Royal Showcases 3 Divisions of Power!
(Mars, PA) The stage is set for an incredible 2016 season for the UFo Super Late Models and Semi-Lates. Port Royal Speedway will host the first late model mega-event of 2016 and the first-ever UFo “Supernova†race on Saturday, March 26 as the “2016 World Blastoff†will feature both UFo divisions in championship events plus the powerful 410 Sprint cars with a combined payoff of $38,000 for all three powerful divisions.
The UFo Super Late Models will race in a 35 lap championship event paying $3,000 to win and $300 to start. The new Semi-Late division will race 25 laps for $1,000 to win and $140 to start. The 410 Sprints will race for the strong Port Royal payoff of $3,200 to win and $325 to start in a 25 lap feature. All classes will include heat races and consolations if necessary.
The UFo Super Late Models and Semi-Lates are projected to pay out almost $40,000 in point fund rewards at season end if the current full schedule is completed. Devin Friese of Chambersburg, PA is the defending UFo Super Late Model champion and also claimed a UFo victory at Port Royal last year. Runner-up Dylan Yoder of Selinsgrove, PA won the UFo “Butch Renninger 33†at the track last September. The defending Port Royal champion is Mike Lupfer of Shermansdale, PA.
The UFo Championship averaged 36.5 Super Late Models in 2015 with spectacular racing. Exceptional wins from late year included Mason Zeigler from 29th, Kyle Hardy from 23rd and Dylan Yoder from 20th at Dog Hollow, and Jared Hawkins from 14th at Tyler County. Friese, Yoder and Jared Miley collected 2 wins on the 2015 UFo trek with Zeigler, Hardy, Hawkins, Keith Jackson, Tim Dohm taking single wins. An excellent field of drivers is expected for the “2016 World Blastoff.â€
The UFo Semi-Lates will come to reality in 2016 with a full schedule and has gained high driver interest in the off season. Andrew Yoder is the defending Port Royal Econo Late champion. Tim Smith, Jr. who has moved up to Super Late Model competition, won the first and only UFo Semi-Late race to date held in 2011 by David Eriksen.
The integrated Sem-Late rules will combine area econo, limited, crate, semie and steel block late models. The various motor combinations will be equalized using weight breaks and spoiler variances, a concept that has proven to work perfectly since it was initiated at the Challenger Raceway in 2007.
Crate late models (rules similar to RUSH, CARS & FASTRAK) will have a 2,200 weight limit and be permitted to run a 12†spoiler and side spoilers. 2-barrel econo lates (similar to Port Royal) will weigh 2,300 pounds with a 10†spoiler and 12†side spoiler. 360 limited motor cars (similar to Bedford, Hagerstown, Susquehanna) will weigh 2,350 with an 8†spoiler. SLM cars (Thunder Mountain, Hummingbird type rules) will weigh 2,350 with an 8†spoiler. 360 modified motors (similar to Path Valley, Winchester, Clinton County) will weigh 2,400 pounds with an 8†spoiler plus aluminum head cars must have 50 pounds mounted on or in front of the motor mid-plate, included in the total weight.
At Port Royal, open steel block 430 cars will weigh 2,450 with all cars required to run 50 pounds on or in front of the mid-plate. The open steel block category weight limit will change from track to track due to track configurations and local car rules. Drivers are limited to competition in 1 UFo division at this event. Both the Super Late Models and Semi-Lates will be required to run American Racer 44 or harder or Hoosier 15/1300 or harder tires with a 36 minimum punch at Port Royal events. Some tracks in 2016 will have open compound rules as noted in the UFo rules. All other tire specifications apply. All drivers are required to have RACEceivers with working batteries and all cars must be equipped with working AMB (red) transponders. The pit gates will open at 3:00 with the drivers meeting and pill draw cutoff at 4:45. Warm-ups will follow with racing at 6:00 PM. Admission for this huge payoff event will be $20 for grandstands and $32 for the pits. Grandstand admission for Juniors 12-18 is only $7. Super Late Model car entry fee is $25 and Semi-Late car entry fee is $15, which will be deducted from the final payoff. The rain date for the UFo “2016 World Blastoff†is Saturday, April 9.
