I got hit in the eye by a mud ball about the size of a pool ball at North Georgia Speedway in spot 81 on the fence. As soon as it hit, I went blind and I thought my eyeball fell out. Couldnt see good the rest of the night, had a black eye the next day. Made me skiddish to watch hot laps from that spot, but I always wear eye protection now.

I saw an older woman get hit square in the forehead with a dirt clod about the size of a baseball. She was setting about 5 rows from the bottom in the grandstands coming off of turn 4. It knocked her our cold. This happened at Macon with about a dozen laps to go during the Herald & Review 100 many years ago. She was still out when I had to leave about 5 minutes after the race was over.
Looked through the Herald & Review in the days following and never saw a word about it.

I have caught some nasty roost riding the dirt bike and it is terrible imagine getting shot by a paintball gun over and over. The hands hurt the worst when they get pelted.

I saw a crew guy get hit in the face with a rock and ultimately lose an eye at I-96 Speedway in Michigan during late 90's Outlaws sprint show. Track was selling the pit bleachers for general admission overflow, so all the crew guys were forced to stand way to close to turn 1 to see anything.

I remember getting hit in the knee years at Eldora during historical big one sprint show. I never seen it, but it left a big bruise. It bounced off my knew and hit a woman 2 rows behind me.
It didn't happen to me. I also remember a guy getting taken out in a ambulance at atomic/kc years ago. People we knew that were sitting close to him, said it took out his eye.

I've took several dirt clods, rocks, etc. over the years but nothing to bad.
I did see my brother get pelted in the nuts at Atomic last year or year before at sprint show, left a big dirt mark on his khaki shorts right in the nether region.T3G - Never Forget, Hardly Remember

A modified driver at Webster City, IA had the misfortune of being behind a car that lost its starter. This poor dude took the starter right to the face of his helmet at full speed. The aftermath was not for the faint of heart. His face was bloodied and bruised worse than any boxing match I have seen or can imagine. It was a scary moment, I know the guy was hospitalized for longer than just an overnight stay...

Many tracks unfortunately have terrible rocks. A few years ago while watching another heat race I was hit in the eye with a rock, I have a scar on my eye that my eye doctor talks about, I can't notice it much. I have broken fiberglas roofs, seen broken helmets and sliced tires (2"-3" long gash on rocks) in a race track. Maybe it is part of our area, lots of rocks in the soil but some tracks are much worse than others.
I always were glasses of some type now when near the track and not in the car.

Been there, done that.Originally posted by plunks7 View PostI got nailed in the head with a big chunk of mud. The very next lap I got nailed in the Balls by a rock about 1" 1/2 in diameter. Rolling on the ground in major discomfort to say the least.
