My first thought was that this would benefit the fans because they won't have to pay Daytona 500 hotel prices. Then I reminded myself that nothing is done for the good of the fans, so the Daytona 500 must have been moved back to the 26th for next year.

Everything got "moved" back a week in 2012 and has been every year since ..Previously the 500 was always on the Sunday prior to the federal holiday (Presidents Day) for years and years.. For years I always used that Monday for a travel day as I always had it off... BTW the 500 was on the 26th in 2012 (I checked the shirt I got that year).

Nothing about the races in Florida are about their core fans, it's a destination event. Only makes sense that they do it during Daytona

You are right, not about fans at all, and that is the part that upset me the most.
Deery stated "align this event with all of the great motorsports events... and provide as much accessibility to our fans as possible"
What this should have said is to "provide as much conveinence to our NapCar owners as possible"
Which makes good business sense, but dont feed me the BS please .
It is easy to see that if it werent for KKR, TSR, LMR, Bowyer, etc etc then WRG doesnt have much of a product to display, so I understand the association.
Stop the spin. Its not about Fans. Its about the business relationships necessary to keep your product afloat.
God forbid the CHILDRESS BRATS have to spend an extra week there just to race thier toys, that they do once a year.

Lets make it clear, Thats the people you are catering to, not the fans. 10 years ago, maybe yes, dirt fans and Winston Cup fans were one in the same, but I dont think thats the case anymore. Clearly separated now, as any regular reader of this message board could tell you. I've went to Volusia 4 of the last 6 years and have yet to visit Daytona. And this is the message I am trying to send:

Well you really cant say Nascar and Volusia are in bed together on this. Now that Nascar runs their pre events at nite, they take away some of Volusias fans. Before this, you had to hustle to Volusia after the Twin 125s to get a good seat!

excellent point...........volusia grandstands will still be packed........Daytona 500 grandstands, not so much.
