toyracer, your another one that doesn't understand the king's english. As I said earlier I am not opposed to a entry fee,but it must be in line with the total payout,($105.00 entry fee,for $3000.00 to win,is way out of line.)Originally posted by toyracer View PostIs Florence running a 3-5k show 2-3 times a month and or every time they open the gates? I bet not. The Ultimate show has good purse every time they race.
The southern tour has a 20k to win race at VMS. I guess you wouldn't want to pay entry fee for that either.
Too funny won't pay entry fee for 400 to win but will pay for 450 to win just because it is 5k to win.
Bottom line is only 1 driver is walking away with top money. Either you want to race or you don't.
I know it's not quite the same but been to a lot of go kart races & pay a $25 entry fee to win a $100.00 to win & only top 3 get paid. Guess no one should support go kart racing either.
Man/ owner of series has a business plan to make it successful for both drivers, fans & himself no differnt than other companies out there.
The series says that they use these entry fee's for this and that, but mainly to pay the points fund. That's all well and good, and here is a suggestion, when the BOB series comes to a local track, have the drivers that follow the series pay the entry fee of $105.00,and have a reduced entry fee for the locals,(SAY $50.00.)you just got greased

If only the 5-8 cars that run every race pay that money there will certainly not be enough at the end of the season to pay the point fund. Without being able to pay the point fund they won't have any cars following the series. Without any cars following the series tracks will see no use in scheduling their races. If nobody schedules them then they go under, and all the $3000 to win, $400 to start races that drivers could run at are gone. Then the drivers will have to go back to racing for $1200-$1500 to win every weekend.
How about if you have a car you go race wherever you want, and let the other drivers make their decision. I'm sure that the BoB series will have a full field for their race despite the entry fee. There are a bunch of options everywhere in SLM racing so if something about one tour bothers you then you can run elsewhere.
Thanks,
Jeff.

I'm sure some of the best races of every season happen at a local track. I think a lot of drivers are at a level where they require better than local money to sustain their program. It is definitely good for the sport that series such as Ultimate/SAS/CBC, etc. exist.Originally posted by old fan View Postsome times heck many times weekly races are a lot better

Most series don't really have many more than that running for points. I know the Ultimate, SAS, Carolina Clash, ALMS and others generally don't have a ton of drivers following the entire tour. For instance it looks like the points champion in the ALMS from 2015 missed 5 of their events and still won the championship. Brian Ruhlman was sixth in points last year in the ALMS after missing 13 events.Originally posted by lazermod3 View PostIf the series only get's 5,to 8 cars, they should cancel it.

Have you ever in your life ever seen or heard of an ultimate race that only had 5 to 8 cars?????? EVER?Originally posted by lazermod3 View PostIf the series only get's 5,to 8 cars, they should cancel it.
I'm pretty sure Jeff was just giving you an example of the economics of promoting a series event and season...
And in the same breath and spirit as your own advice.........if 105 dollar entry fee into a sanctioned event is putting your racing operation in peril, you should cancel it.
Your slm racing operation I'm talkin bout.........Where is the move over flag when you need it?????

Seriously, it is an oversimplification. Everyone here has valid points. It is something racers in the area are not too familiar with. It is true that "$105 shouldn't break your operation". It is also true that poor people used to put food on their table racing late models. The scales keep tipping more and more against the racer. He is forced to pay more and more of the purse with the back gate.
I believe Lazermod's argument was about 5-8 guys supporting the series. You know, racing all of the BoB shows.
The argument is whether or not bringing in the series is worth the additional cost? How many extra cars does it bring in?
In some parts of the country, you race for $800 without a regional series. In some, you do not.
I agree I should have never gotten in on this. Just let the market determine how it goes. If I had a car ready, I would be there either way.Modern Day Spec Wedge Racing

That is probably all there will be running the entire tour. Like I said above, most tours average that. Is it economic to bring one in? I think so. There are other factors to consider, but basically the track is putting up the purse and paying a fairly small sanction fee (I assume). In addition each driver is paying the entry fee which helps pay the point fund and any admin costs/wages not covered by the sanction fee. In exchange the track gets the Ultimate BoB series 5-8 points drivers, and likely another 10+ that are there specifically because of the Ultimate name (whether that is because of the credibility added by the series, or as a result of the incredible amount of promotion these series' do to bring attention to their events). The promoters are paying these tours to bring their cars, and also to ensure that the event is very well advertised. The Ultimate series does an excellent job of promoting their events at tracks - I generally know where and when the Ultimate series is racing without ever having checked their schedule... and I live 800+ miles from some of their events!Originally posted by MasterSbilt_Racer View PostIt is, for the entertainers.
