As a 30 year Big Block Modified and Billy Pauch fan, I'll give him the benefit of doubt. It happened at the DirtCar sanctioned races at Volusia in February. You really have not heard that much about doctoring tires in the modified ranks like the Late Models. Could have been an "honest" mistake. I give Hearn props as well. It cost him a $5,000 win to make his statement. Apparently he finished second last year at Orange County Speedway for the Eastern States 200. Everyone in the pits knew the winning car ( $35,000 to win ) had an illegal engine, but the track and head inspector looked the other way despite Hearn offering to put up $$$ to protest and tear the engine down for all to see. All the engine, tire, and body rules from track to track has really hurt the sport for the modifieds. It is almost impossible to race at more than one track. That is why I have recently gravitated to Dirt Late Models and 410 sprints. Generally the rules are very similar from coast to coast. Big Block Modifieds need one CZAR so speak. One sanctioning body/ one leader, i.e. Glen Donnally to enforce one set of rules to see division grow again. Not sure it will ever happen with all the track sponsorship's with the tire companies and body styles.... I can only hope.

I like Billy. He's an incredibly nice guy and one of the best pure dirt drivers in history. But he's not an idiot. Everybody knows Simple Green comes back hot on tire tests. He's also known to push tech to it's limits. He went a little too far this time and got popped.

The Brett Hearn thing, it was absolutely a statement against Bob Dini, OCFS' tech director. Brett was absolutely screwed at last year's Eastern States 198. Everybody in the pits knew Meier was illegal for that race and Dini refused to tech him after the race, and that was after slyly cutting two laps off the race to ensure Meier's victory. For what it's worth, guess who the beneficiary was again this time? And Meier wasn't puffed this time either.

Brett running Lebanon Valley as his weekly track makes sense now, doesn't it.

Fukin over the top modified guy over the last thirty years, seems logical.

And yeah, I've always liked Pauch. Since his Zemco days.
