Has anyone else noticed that in recent DOD interviews Scott keeps saying that they were using "old tires"? Is this his way of making a mockery of the tire suspensions? I thought it was pretty good humor myself.

I have taken notice of that as well, LM1, and thought it to be a bit odd. Who knows what Scott means by "old" or "older". I would say, maybe they have been run in hot laps, similar to NASCAR "scuffed tires", but that wouldn't seem to be the case, given that the zero car doesn't show up in time for hot laps.
The last time I remember someone saying that they were using old tires was when Birkhofer claimed to be using the same tires (or tire... I think he said the same RR tire) for multiple races, back when he and Mars were ripping off wins left and right.

I think he's telling the truth. I'm sure he's not talking about tires that have 100+ laps on them, I'd say he's talking about a left front left rear and right front that have about 10-15 laps on them. Heat cycled tires are harder than brand new ones, so they should perform better in longer runs, which is kind of Scott's strength.
