Larger Modified Entry List for 30th Oldani at DuQuoin
          By Jay Hardin Track Enterprises

(Du Quoin, IL) A bigger entry list, more money up for grabs, and two former winners are part of the story lines for the 2024 Bill Oldani Memorial modified race at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds. Sponsors have come through like gangbusters putting up additional prize money, more entries have been submitted to date including those for a five-time and seven-time winner of the event. Heats will be run Saturday afternoon with the 20-mile main event Sunday night.

Race supporter Olin Sparks has helped bring together the following awards for the weekend: Burks Family Alpaca Farm of Herrin Fast Qualifier Award $150, Cold Stone Creamery Hard Charger Award $100, Tomahawk Roofing Contractors Hard Charger $100, Tomahawk Roofing Contractors Heat Race Winners $100, and Tomahawk Roofing Contractors Tough Luck Award $100. In addition, Damery Brothers Motorsports will give 10 gallons of fuel and a case of Penn Grade Oil to the last driver on the lead lap of the feature.

With seven-time winner and one lap track record holder Ken Schrader on the entry list, setting fast time and hanging onto the lead lap will be a challenge. Schrader waited over two decades to pick up his first win on the Magic Mile, and since then there has been a flood of them. A crate late model win, three ARCA wins, and seven Oldani trophies for the driver who first ran at DuQuoin in August of 1979.

Five-time winner Brian Shaw of Robinson is also on the entry list. Others include 11-time starter Jim Shipman, 8-time starter Josh Sissom, 23-year starter Joe Giesler, 10-time starter Rick Weitekamp, 11-time starter Rich Lentz and 12-time starter Charlie Baker. The field includes such standouts as Hunt Gossum of Kentucky and David Shain of Humboldt. Shain’s uncle Steve Adams pursued a mile track win for nearly 25 years getting one at Springfield in 2023 and Shain would love to add one to his resume.

The Oldani Memorial is named in honor of the late Illinois and DuQuoin State Fair Director Bill Oldani who is credited with improving both facilities and increasing interest in the fair races at both tracks.

The 30th Oldani Memorial is part of a huge weekend of racing that begins on Saturday afternoon, August 31 with 70th Ted Horn 100 USAC Silver Crown and Modifieds at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds, and

Sunday evening, September 1 with the 70th ARCA Southern Illinois 100 and the Bill Oldani Memorial for the Modifieds at the Magic Mile.

Advance tickets for the DuQuoin State Fair races are available by calling the Track Enterprises office at 217-764-3200, by calling the DuQuoin State Fair box office at 618-542-1535, or by stopping by the DuQuoin State Fair box office.
