Sprint Car Into The Crowd At Volusia Speedway Park

We watched the internet PPV of the Stars sprint car event at Volusia earlier in the week and Joey Saldana went out of the speedway but no one was injured in that incident. Not so lucky this time.

Wouldn't be surprising if the insurance company has some stern recommendations for the folks who promote racing at Volusia. A new catch fence probably is in the future of VSP.

Prayers go out for the injured and their families.

sadly, the World Racing Group owns VRP. They have owned it for 10+ years and apparently have no desire to set the standard for catch fencing that all tracks that their traveling groups (Sprints, Lates, Big Blocks) visit.

I hope and pray everyone survives the accident. As a fan, it makes me sick that after a car went over the fence just a couple nights prior that the WRG didn't block this area off until they could get better fencing in place.

A post from Hoosier Tire Midwest on the Macon Speedway Facebook page says that one of their employees, modified and ARCA racer, Kelly Kovski, was one of the persons injured in the incident at Volusia Speedway Park on Sunday evening.

Kelly is listed in stable condition at Halifax Hospital in Daytona Beach. We will be keeping Kelly and his family in our prayers. We also pray that Kelly makes a full recovery in time to be in a racecar for the start of the racing season. Kelly also participates in the two ARCA events staged on the dirt mile tracks of Springfield and Du Quoin. He's nearly won both of those events in the past and is always a contender for the victory.
