On July 21st at Lucas Oil Raceway Park the legendary midget driver Robert George "Tat" Tattersall will be inducted posthumously into the USAC Hall Of Fame prior to, and in conjunction with, the USAC Silver Crown race.
Tat was born on July 27th, 1924 in Seneca, Illinois. He married Delores Ligori of Streator, Illinois and they made their home in Streator. Tat raced out of Streator his whole career and sadly passed away in October of 1971 following a battle with cancer that began in 1967.
Tat has the distinction of winning the 1969 USAC National Midget Championship. 1969 was the USAC midget season that contained the greatest number of races. Tat also won the UARA midget championship in 1957 & 1958.
Tat was a veritable God in Australia. They call him "Two Gun Tattersall" down under! He won 16 different championships in Australia and New Zealand from 1958 until 1971. Some of his Australian racing records still stand. To this day Tat is one of the most popular sports figures in Australia.
If anyone deserves the honor of being inducted into the USAC Hall of Fame it's Bob Tattersall.
Congratulations to Delores Tattersall who will naturally represent Tat at the induction ceremony at Raceway Park. Dee is in relatively good health and it's wonderful that she's able to share this event in honor of her late husband.
