Internal...We have a Brinn in an open motor deal and after 3 seasons, the clutch is still fine and absolutely trouble free...

If you run an external SMALL clutch and a regular trans and have the best setup, you will be beaten 99% of time on restarts and comming pout of the corners by a direct drive trans that is not trying to spin up the weight of a clutch.
