    how to sqaure a late model

    how do u sqaure a late model with the rear end moving the way it does any info will help

    We have always just used the 4 bar measurements and jbar measurements from our builder and never had any problems.

      i opened up a can on this once. tried it all sorts o ways lol. bout went crazy stayed up all night and half another night lol. my thoughts are the motorplate is the squarest starting point for measurements. so i strung two lines 90deg from motorplate at furthest outside point back the same distace say 50inch to about 6 inch from rear end tubes. then ran another line paralel to rear exactly 90deg from both my strung lines along the length of the rear. then measured from that strung line to rear end axle tubes. thats the measurement that will square the rear. good luck lol.

      my ? how do you set the rear end lateral location if it has no baseline. i tried stringing the lr off the lf tire and trying to make it equal to lf. but how do you know when lf is perfectly st8. if its off just a little the whole thing is off. i attempted to string the lf off the string off the motorplate but was getting a little complicated. gotta be a easier way.

      so yea let me know how it works out

        Andy16, you've got the proper technique for squaring the rear end but ask yourself this: do you want the rear end square in the car?
        You can take a brand new chassis of about any brand, set the 4-bar lengths to the manufacturers recommended starting points, set the rear end at recommended ride heights, and measure for square off of the motor plate and if you find one that is square let me know.
        With regards to lateral positioning, as long as you have the correct rear-end in the car (correct axle lengths) there is usually a measure that the chassis manufacturer can provide you with that is from the right side frame rail to the right side of the rear center section.

          lol well ya see i uh wrecked that car and had to do some str8tening some cutting and some welding. so i needed to re square the rear then re set my lr lead. the lateral position was measured by there j bar lenghth they gave no rail to rear measurement and i knocked the whole j bar 2x2 off so didn know where it was supposed to go? did i just admit to that? smh

            To truely square the rearend with the front end you have to have the front set the same (caster and camber) and measure off the lower ball joints. or like others have said measure off the motorplate or I always like to measure off of the front cross member it should be pretty close.
            Most cars still have rear steer built in with the 4 bars set at the same lengths.

              Balljoints are not always in line. Left is usually shorter. Some string and four jack stands is the only way that I know of without using a laser. Very easy to do.
