new to crates this year.i bought a new 602 just wondering if i can run regular 93 octane (contains 10% ethanol)?should i just run the d98?just thinking of some ways to cut costs.is there a safe mixture of race fuel and 93?thanks in advance.

If you run pump gas you should have your carb built to that. If you run the 98 same thing. You also need to consider the pump gas to run as I have dyno tested 11-12 different brands for customers and I use Chevron 93 as my baseline for any fuel testing. Many of the current race fuels out there don't make as much power as the 93 with Techron.
There is more variation in pump gas from station to station than there is in racing fuel. If you purchase pump gas you should buy it 55gal at a time and pull from the drum just to try and keep constant.
There is more power in matching the carb to the fuel you run than almost any other tuning point on any crate engine 602 or 604.
The next step is acceleration matching you distributor to the burn curve of the fuel you burn and the carb and gas you run. It is integral to the engine system that these parts run in step with each other, if not you will have an engine that won't pull off the corner and will die out pretty bad up the straights.
I compare it most to getting the oxy-acetylene ratio right for super heating and cutting steel, just a little but off on either or both and you won't cut very well.
