I'm looking at replaceing the valve springs on my 602 this winter as my season is currently over. This is currently in an IMCA modified so being "legal" is not an issue. I can do virtually whatever I want to the engine. I'm just rather unsure on what parts fit. I need suggestions on what would be a good spring to put in that would be an upgrade. Also any other suggestions on what to replace while we have the valve covers off. (valve seals, locks, retainers etc etc) Any part numbers or links to sites would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Ask,
There would be hundreds of options for what you are looking for. I have tried almost every 1.250" spring on the market and they did not meet my needs so I have my own wound in Germany and shipped over here twice a year in 5000spring batches. Once I get them rated, tested, grouped, treated , tested and re-rated and grouped I sell them for $249 with retainers and locks. They will easily run one season and probably 2 seasons with .050" shim season#2. They are similar in material to Nextec or PSI but slightly better in raw untreated form.
I sell to 20+ IMCA guys and engine builders and have had real good feedback. I even have a couple customers running them in 7500rpm Hydraulic roller engines with no valve float or problems. I run them in my "outlaw" crates on dirt and road racing and we turn 7800-8200 and have made it 1000 laps or a whole season with no problems.
I would look at a Manley, PSI, or COMP. They all carry an adequate 1.250" spring.

Upon speaking to comp cams the recomended 981-16 Singler outer valve springs 1.254 OD with 105lbs at seat load. All fine and good i order them and we go to put them on but the dampener wont fit over the valve boss. Call up comp and speak to someone different and they say that comp never made springs to fit the 602. Cant run the spring without the dampener. The heads on the 602 are slightly different than others as we just found out. Thanks and have a nice day. I do not want to put new stock valve springs in and want to go a bit heavier for better performance. Any suggestions, part numbers ect ect??? Feel free to PM me or email at andrewkieffer@yahoo.com if you dont want to share publicly. I do not need to keep this to stock 602 specs. I just happen to have a 602 engine in my imca modified.

Here is the Manley part number we and most people at DIS run. Manley 22409-16 Street Master Valve Springs SB Chevy. We have also run the Comp Cams springs that are the equivalent to these Manleys. The 602 has regular 062 vortec heads as far as I know.
