having starter problems have brinn starter 604 crater motor the starter not engaging deep enough its only hitting the flywheel 1/8 inch how do I fix this new starter or shims behind flywheel

usually 2 shims behind the fly wheel, and do not grease the grease zirk by the starter, it will hang up on you.

thank you ill try the shims it dose hang up ill clean it try it again

If you have a brinn housing with a Bert flywheel that's your issue. Yes they appear the same but the reverse idler is different. Use the Bert idler with the Bert flywheel and visa versa. They are interchangeable on the bellhousing
