I had a question put to me that I thought would be appropriate for forum discussion----so below is the question from the customer and then my response.
Brad, my name is XXXX XXXX I race a street stock now, but have purchased a late model roller that I want to race in the crate class. I dont know much about them and am getting lots of "opinions". I was hoping you could help me. I have a couple of guys trying to sell me used parts off of their cars. I want to run a 604 on E-85. Should I run a 750 carb or a 650? Thanks for any help.
the specific question is carb size for E-85 with a 604 in a late model
carb size is always revelant to the power band desired for the situation at hand
example:
big carb (750) = high end power but lacks low end torque and throttle response
little carb (650)= low end torque and power but lacks end of the straightaway power
a few years ago Tony Smith at Stealth went to work on a 700 in an attempt to blend the best of both worlds-----the 700 has been our most popular choice for obvious reasons
HOWEVER your question is specifically about E-85 and we found that with the additional fuel demand of E-85 the 700 was lacking just a bit more than we wanted to accept on the top end but the throttle response was favorable so once again a blend was created to satisfy both ends as close as possible and a 725 was introduced for E-85
NONE of this information is intended to sell anyone a carburetor only to educate the user about carburetor sizes and what is available
we still offer and sell 650's and 750's for both gas and e-85 applications but when buying new consider a blend of upper and lower end power
no problem buying used components provided the seller is reputable and willing to help if you need it
we sell all Stealth but John at JDR and David Smith also have great packages for the crate world
stay away from conversion kits for E-85
