Running a 604 with beehive springs. I've had some folks tell me not to turn it more than 6000 and others will say 7000+ won't hurt it. Obviously I'm wanting to be in the power band that'll make me the fastest. Running 1/4 to 1/3 mile tracks. With that said, what is the truth?

as an engine builder I don't like to see them over 6600 but I will say that the majority of our customers run them at 6800 and they seem to live just fine there
they all begin to drop power at 6000 and depending on your fuel/carb choice and header selection you can drop as much as 60 HP in the next 800 rpm
going past 6800 will not produce any useable power no matter what combination of "legal" components you use and WILL be fatal to your engine in a short period of time

I put a 6800 chip on my 604 and run a gear that gets me right up to my rpm limit. Seems to work pretty good in that power band and I've only bounced it off the limiter a couple of times when it was really dry slick from spinning.Comment
