    Strange Axles

Anyone done any real testing with their theory?

80 degree twist without failure is hard to imagine!

There are a lot of holes in that propaganda on their page. Many times, a dirt racer would want throttle tight anyway. What happens when you let that wound spring unwind with no damping? That's what I thought...

I know several teams are running them, just wondered if anyone had any real world experience with them.

Definitely, sounds too good to be true!

They can work to tune a car, but the whole forward drive deal...... well. Why doesn't softening your 5th coil spring or pull bar spring add drive, if the rapping up does?

Just think what happens to the LR or RR when it's twisted up 80 degree's and hits a slick spot on the track? The tire is gonna unwrap/spin that 80 degrees until it gets enough traction again to rap back up.

Would it be different from rear end wrap up? If for example the axle were solid, no wrap, all the energy would be fed thru the housing against the 5th arm. Since now with these axles, they would be absorbing some torque as well as, but it does make you wonder how well the 5th arm will be able to dampen this stored energy, if at all... Be curious to try it on maybe a leaf car. Just thinking out loud.

5th coil shock can't do anything to damp the axle unwrap. Only some of the resulting shock.

Do you remember the drive plates with the small rubber pucks in them? They had different durometer reading ones to "fine tune" your forward drive. I remember seeing them on Moyers car in the early 90's!

                Shocker drive plates!

Ask Joe garrison about them, he was getting 10 calls a week over some LR drive plate that Bill Frye had with "Strange Engineering" stamped on it. Frye single handedly sold 100's if not 1000's of those off a mind game trick. It was an aluminum carb hat (covers carb during cleaning), that he just stamped some letters and bolted to the LR drive plate. Then covered with red rags at the track and only took the rags off to hit the track.

Bill was good at stuff like that, if you see him ask him about the story of the drive plate and when a racer asked him about it at the car wash.

Bill is funny as hell but he has a dry sense of humor most people don't get. He was almost troll like before there was a thing called a troll. Most of the time people didn't know he was making a joke or being serious

Yep, got to hang around him a fair bit when epj was in a grt. We were pretty tight with Skip as he helped us quite a bit.

                    Bill definitely was a character!

Now that I think about it.....it may have been when Moyer drove for GVS!
