I do it on a modified.

helps keep LF down on ground more (obviously)
better steering by keeping it on ground. (obviously)
will add LR drive the more you tie it down, to a point
can kill weight transfer, side bite to RR if you go to far

You gain left side weight when the tire lifts. It does all the stuff left side weight does, but doesn't do it until the tire is off the ground.
