Spring Smasher

Lazer Chassis. They provided me with center to centers and my 4 corner smasher numbers. Told me to set it on scales to set rear and left. Then say 80-100 LR bite but not to set bite on scales. How the heck do you do that when you have exact smasher numbers....

Yeah but if I have a specific left and rear I want and i set the springs to what its called for then its a done deal If i want 54.4 left and 54 rear and the bite is say 120. If i move lead i will change my left and rear? THey give me ride heights too. but isn't that pointless with smasher numbers as well? I'm going to set it to the numbers regardless just trying to make sure I understand the cause and effect and i get this is all dynamic so on the scales in the shop is old school these days just want to make sure what i see happen is whats supposed to happen

Set the coilovers on the smasher. Install on car. Place ballast to achieve lr, left side, and rear percents. Go race.

Lead placement may change the ride height and pin to pin slightly. Don't worry about that.

Theoretically if everything is the same, once you get the left and rear % correct putting the coilovers on the car set to certain load numbers at the pin to pin measurements the car will scale with a set amount of LR bite for the most part. Obviously some of this depends on how close the car is build and things like stagger, cage settings, and everything is exactly as it's supposed to be.

Just remember load numbers especially static load numbers are not that dissimilar to old school set up sheets, they are a recommended starting point and not absolutes and can be tweaked just like you might old school on bite numbers or %'s. Your dynamic load numbers are a little more absolute in a sense but still not available to be tweaked some for your circumstances.

Speaking of spring smasher, what brand do you guys use?

I was thinking of buying an MLR, there close to town here, anyone ever use one?

I see Wehr's is offering one, it looks nice.

I have an old tube bender, was thinking of buying a load cell / scale and building one myself but the ram is air over hydraulic. So was wondering if accuracy would be good, in what increments should you be interested in measuring? every .100, or .200 ?

We tested air over hydraulic before we settled on electric actuators for our production models. It's impossible to get any real accuracy with hydraulics as they tend to float . We have sold over 100 of the EZ-Raters in the last 12 months everyone seems satisfied with them.
