Slick track engine tuning

What's everyone's go to when the track gets extremely slick? Restrictor plates? Progressive linkage so the secondaries come in late? Pull gear? I currently have the progressive linkage but I'm not sure that's the best option and it seems to mess up the idle. Thanks in advance

The restrictor plates are the most common thing for the pros to do.
