ran a new motor with a fresh 4 stage dry sump system last weekend, carried roughly 85-90 lbs of oil pressure. took the oberg off the top of the tank to check the screen for debris, didnt find anything of any concern and reinstalled it. when we went to start the motor we didnt have any oil pressure today. so my ? is do you have to prime the pump every time you take a line loose? also how much oil would be in the tank and the pan after a motor has been shut off? TIA

Is there still oil in the tank? Seen all the oil drain into the engine if they sit a while. -
Assuming your gauge shows oil pressure in the first 10-15 second or so of firing the motor you are fine.
Since your gauge is probably the highest point in the system you will have nearly all of the oil in the line drain back into the motor and it takes a little bit of time for the line to be filled.
Once the pump is primed you shouldn't need to re-prime it until the next time you change oil.Comment

We have one of Bill's aluminum engines with a 5 stage Wulff pump...When cold it is about 65-70 lbs with Gibbs XP-3 oil....At 220* oil temp, at idle it is about 25-30 lbs...1500 rpm idle...You just need to spin the motor over a bit and you will see the gauge bump and you are fine to fire it...Comment
