New to dry sumps

my engine builder is telling me to overfill oil by one quart after the engine get 700-800 laps on her because of vacuum and piston ring wear, has anyone ever heard of such a thing?

Been running dry sump systems for nearly 30 years. With several different builders. Never been told to run more oil as the engine gets tired. They will use a little more if their really worn out but that really shouldn't be the case at 7-800 laps. But i run the same level regardless of engine laps or system configuration

^^^ Agreed. In my experience, any amount over-filled just ends up blowing out the tank breather.

I'm not sure how often other folks change oil, I'm typically every 4-5 normal nights. Aka not a lot of "mileage" per 'say, so you def shouldn't be using / burning that much oil with out big problems.

I'm assuming you have a normal 3-4 gallon system, 12-16 quarts, there should be plenty of extra in that size tank to get by with a bit of usage (but, again, likely not big usage). I've had a spring oiler line come loose and lose 1-1.5 quarts, aside from the mess, no problems with the slightly lower oil level.

Lastly, and this is me not being a motor guy btw, but with the vacuum these pumps create in the engine (if you have a well sealed motor, and a popoff on the valve cover, not an open tube like the ole days), I'd think that'd help reduce oil burning too? Just a theory spoken outloud.
