525 crate vs open motor

Track dependant, we won 4 races in a row running a 604 in open motor races on a smaller track that was always dry slick and hard.

i know cj raburn was sorta pushing thes motors an too most of the time tracks down south are hard an dry slick for the main events

Sealed they don't have a prayer when the track is heavy. They become more competitive the slicker the track gets. Unsealed they are competitive with the open engines in any and all circumstances.

Biggest problem in our area is that most tracks don't allow them due to rules that state "no coil packs" or "no distributor-less engines". They can be adapted to use a distributor but by the time you spend all the money you might as well just have a 650 HP spec-type motor or something along those lines.
As previously stated, pretty competitive on small tracks that get slick but long straights and hammer-down corners...better have plenty of tear-offs.

take the 525 spend a couple thousand $ on head work and cam, then run it with opens, for $10,000 you can have a new 750hp engine that has pretty good internals. just dont crank the balls off it.

around here you can run the 525 in the crate class and the SLMR class. they put in a restrictor for the crates and they choke them down so much most are middle of the pack or worse and the 602/604s kick they all over the track. and when they take the restrictor out they are not competitive on the hammer down tracks against the built motors and they dont qualify for the main. so by the time it slicks off and they would be competitive by feature time they are sitting and watching.

There are a couple of CT525's out here in California, and Nick Bartels has won a couple of mains this year against the open engines. The tracks have slicked off for the most part, but he has been competitive at Santa Maria which stays hooked up for the most part. The one place where he looked down on HP was at Calistoga, a Williams Grove type 1/2 mile, really long straights and tight corners. Just changes the oil in it occasionally and fills it with pump gas...

Born and raised at the next town over. Fulton is a paperclip type track with some decent banking. I always remember it having a cushion and being more stop and go.

fulton is trying to go 525 racing. john wright has done wonders up there. where actually from a town right by utica-rome speedway

Over on Late Model Racer web site, I saw a post by Bartels that he has 31 races on his CT525, 5 wins and he still is on the original spark plugs....Another car in his team is on one and when the 3rd car's open engine gets tired, they are going with a CT525 in that one also...

we all know the 602 and 604 has the twist off bolts on it. does the 525 also have them?
