Anybody try unhooking back barrels on carb in the dead slick?

Lots of racers do that.Even Late Models.Works great...Wont hurt engine..

Try having a quick change throttle pedal adjustment. You could get more pedal travel for the slick. It would give you smoother control. I start out with 4 inches of travel and go from there.
