Left Rear Chain Limiter - Location

I am interested in what everyone's thoughts are on the left rear chain limiter location. I have played with many locations, however, the one that I haven't and I am questioning is one I have been seeing crop up in modifieds mostly. It is located 2-3" off the front of the axle housing. I was under the impression that these people had thoughts of increasing axle wrap by using the drive on the left rear tire to literally pull the axle up when the chain becomes topped out. However, I would also think that during braking, it would literally pull the chassis down as well. Thoughts?
