    MSD distributors

What's the difference between the MSD 5551 & 5501 (locked) other than the 5501 being a locked distributor? We run a locked GM HEI right now and switching over to MSD.

Which MSD is recommended with a 6AL box for a 500 HP SBC (doesn't have to be those listed)?

i'm with merc123 they are junk in my book.. we bought a brand new one and it was the cause of blowing up our motor 3 times before it was caught .. thanks to everette at willys carb who found the trouble... msd will be getting a ton of calls from me ... we pay good money for quality parts and get junk..my wrap will have 20" tall letters this year that says msd sucks on it unless they help out on this motor... will be installing a mallory set up from rousch racing ...

I've used the 8555 distributors for years locked with no problems. Looks like the 85501 comes locked out. The 85561 has a slip collar and that's nice to have. I'll check later to see what's in the motor.

The 85501 also comes with a bronze gear.
