Engine weight question...

What are the typical weights of these engines? General answers are fine I know variables will effect the total weights, but what can be expected from these engines in dirt trim.

All Steel after market SBC(Limited Late)

All aluminum SBC(Super)

Alll aluminum LS1(CT525)

All aluminum BBC(Big Block Mod)

SBC are usually between 390-400 weighed with the motor plate, flywheel, no pumps other than water, no carb, and no fluids.

Edit: This is what ours weigh for Saturday night racing. I'm sure the big teams are a few lbs lighter.

Our 410 sprint motor weighed 385 with all pumps and fluids.

So an all aluminum Super SBC is roughly #385, #390. Any idea on all steel limited or all aluminum BBC?

A set of aluminum heads are roughly 50# lighter than an eq. steel head set (20 - 25 lb per head).

An aluminum block is roughly 100# lighter than an eq. steel block.

Stock block 350 with track 1 421lbs,Stock 350 with vortecs 460lbs,dart 406 with steel dart heads 505 lbs,dart aluminum dart heads 370,brodix block -12 heads 390 lbs,598 big block ford A460 heads 600 lbs.

421 pounds was exactly what my stock block/brodix spec head engine weighed with no carb and only the water pump on the front. The steel block/aluminum head Big Block Mod engines around here are 565 or less[no carb. with mag,water pump,dry sump pump] to be considered any good.

Is Eq equivalent to a Dart steel block or stock steel? I know a stock block is lighter than aftermarket racing block.

Dart lists their blocks(only) like this:

SBC aluminum is 95#.

BBC aluminum is 140#.

Bringing up an old post because i am searching for aftermarket block w/ 400mains. obviously the SHP is out.

worlds motown II 400 shows 190lbs-Claiming this thing can be bored out to 4.200!!!
SHP 175lbs
Lil M sportsman 205lbs
Iron eagle 210lbs
Stock 160ish

Alm block guys your on your own.
I am not going to research a PBM or off brand. If i forgot one post it up for me. That motown II looks nice w/ being able to bore out to 4.200. i think i could run that til i was old and gray if nothing goes seriously wrong.

I think for reliability, you have two choices for aluminim blocks, Dart and Brodix....Bill H said the PBM's were not in the same league...

Thats good to know, I always trusted Bill's opinion. I'm noticing a lot of people are down on PBM, why is that? Don't blast me I seriously just want to know.
