5th coil preload help

Just wondering what normal 5th coil pre load is,new to lates and only ran pull bars on our mod.Do you do it with driver in car or any thing like that.THANKS 4M peeps.

1/4 inch with driver's weight in car. After you have done the rest of the set-up. John 1*

Whats the easiest method you've found to getting it to where you can load it, do you jack up any part of the car or compress it?

Car should be sitting on ground at ride height.

Most cars have an access panel built into the decking for the dry sump tank. You could be able to reach it from there and tighten up at least to the point that it hits the spring. Then put it up on jack stands and tighten it another 1/4 inch (usually about 2 or 3 turns depending on shocks). Then it will be preloaded once you put it back on the ground.

You mean to tell me you put in a panel for easy access to make a job quicker...... blasphemy!!! My tank isn't that close to the shock but I just crawl under the bad boy and screw it down...Just wondering if anyone had an easier way...

I am not exactly a beast and I can preload a 5th coil by hand.

I'm 5'9" 230lbs I just get in the passenger side door area while it's up and have the car lowered in top of me and adjust it while i'm in there. It's tight in there but I can get the job done.

Thats why i still use grain scales ,just slide under the car check and adjust any thing you need to .

yup I have a door in the top of deck to get to the fuel filter, battery and 5th coil.

Thank for the help.Also when moving the 5th coil shock front to back on the lift arm do you also have to move the frame mount so it strait up and down?

Yeah, you should move both ends when you adjust the length of the 5th coil.

Also take a few minutes to set up the 5th arm properly. Make sure with the pinion angle you run, that the shock mount holes / slider is parallel with the upper mount (typically level). This way when you slide the shock around to different lengths, you don't have to mess with the length changing also.

I would kill for a set of grain scales. I bought some digital and got single cell and double and both aren't worth what a set of grain scales are to me!
