Best DLM roof?

Most of the cars I've build I've always made my own roof, but the last car I ended up with came with a fiberglass roof. It's been a nice roof, but starting to get a few cracks and holes in it. I might repair it and repaint it, but might not.

Just curious what everyone else uses for a roof? I know several companies make them, are any better than the others?

fibertech. They mostly build sprint car parts but do make an excellent latemodel roof. They also make a 2-piece roof that ships UPS that looks like a 1-piece once put together. John 1*

For best quality, the Five Star MD3 is awesome; Ultra light weight and reinforced with thin plywood underneath to give it rigidity. They are pricey though.

Fibertech roofs are very similar in design, but cheaper in cost and quite a bit flimsier. Five star will last longer, but cost quite a bit more.

I've ran fiberglass, plastic, and aluminum roof's over the years. The plastic Dominator roof I have ran has been superior to anything else. It won't crack unless you get upside down and even then it can be fixed and still look nice.

The aluminum and fiberglass crack and don't even require getting on your lid.


Anybody have the weights of a fiberglass, plastic, and aluminum roof? Bentley, whats a Dominator 2 pc roof weigh?

We have used the same fiberglass roof since 2009. Twisted Outlaw style!!!

I was doing some research about weights, came up with something kind of interesting.

For .040 colored aluminum, a roof that's the normal 42x48 will weigh 8.5 lbs, costs around $20 (based on around $80 a sheet for aluminum, which is what it runs around here)

The MD3 roof weighs just under 6 lbs, $334

Dominator roof weighs between 8-11 lbs. The writing says 11 lbs, but it looks like the shipping weight is 8, not sure there. They cost around $160

Kinda tough to beat the price and weight of an aluminum one... Still not sure what to do though

Based on $80/sheet your aluminum roof would cost $28 at $2/sqft. However you still have to buy the sheet. We are running our fiberglass roof for the third consecutive year. That same feat would require 6 aluminum roofs because of how they split so now that's $240 and the aluminum ones bow under air pressure.

I've had the same aluminum roof on for 2 years and not a crack nowhere.Like Audie Swartz says "In case of a fire would you want fiberglass or plastic dripping on you when it starts melting?" Swartz makes a awesome aluminum roof and can ship it ups.Its a 2 piece design with aluminum front cap.

I`d go with the Aerotech as well, I had 3 seasons on the last one I used, not so much as a crack in it.

QuickTime Suspension makes a .060 aluminum roof that is great. Super tough and very durable. They are available mill finish or powdercoated. They are available at qtsuspension.com or Poske performance parts

Trick makes the fiber glass roof that most have copied over the yrs.
Also does trick drive shafts, carbon fiber.
Does alot for the guys in the chilli bowl, miget stuff as well.

I just got my first new Dominator roof in, and I was surprised how thick and stiff it is... heavier duty and thicker than any other roof I've ever had. I haven't mounted it yet, will probably do so in the next couple days, but like mentioned above I think this roof will be very tough against deflection and good aerodynamics. The last thing I would worry about is fire and melting dripping on you... even if that ever happened the melted plastic on your helmet and fire suit would be the last of your injuries if the fire was that severe...? I am impressed with this Dominator roof and ALL the Dominator pieces I just purchased...
