I'm planning on using a 16 V battery with no alternator this year. was wondering what components need to be stepped down to 12 V so as not to cause damage. most concerned about right front brake shut off and gauge lights thanks for the help

I constantly blow gauge lights in my car but I saw some one advertising on here the other day about l.e.d. replacements that may be cheaper.

I know the Rf shut offs are designed for 12volts, but you might call Wilwood and ask them if they can take more. The MSD 6AL boxes are good to go as is. They are designed for 12-18v input voltage.
I really don't understand why a person would ever want one of these 16v batteries? The MSD boxes are capable of producing full output voltage at 9volts of battery voltage so you aren't loosing any spark. Some say you have more "reserve" voltage so your battery will stayed charged longer, but I've checked my battery after a night of racing and usually just over 12volts. I don't use an alternator either.

If you are blowing bulbs, you need to install some resistors. Use the voltage divider equation and figure out what you need for resistors so you can step your 16v supply voltage down to 12v to keep the bulbs happy.
For example a 3000, and 1000 ohm resistor would take a 16v input to 12volts.
I would imagine the 16v actually produces more than 16 so don't just assume 16v. Just like a 12 volt battery.

We run a 602 crate w/ a 16v battery. Nothing needed to be stepped down and we've run 4 seasons and never had any issues. We use a AMB direct wired transponder, electric RF shutoff, gauge lights, GM HEI ignition w/ MSD soft touch rev limiter.

Turbo start has a 16v to a 12v step down transformer. bout the size of a mans wallet.I think there should be lifeguards in the genepool.

16v does turn the engine over better when starting and the newer Crane ignitions wont run much under 12v.

16 volt chargers put out around 19 volts, turning the disconnet off when charging was recommend in the instruction of the last tach a bought

We have the LED replacement bulbs. We have run them on 17 volts for a little bit but we do not recommend them to run on anything more than 14.We are also going to release a step down box here soon that is under $30. A 12v battery charger can charge upwards of 17-18 volts so a 16v charger would probably produce upwards of 20-24v. Our step down boxes are safe up to 24v and drops the voltage down to 12v/60w. We now carry 16v direct replacement LED bulbs in white. No step down needed. They can withstand up to 20v spikes but sustain 16v with no issues.

Totally agree in 30 yrs of racing never ran an alternator, never had a problem with a 12 vlt. We even ran all weekend at the dream and with another team at the world with a 17 lb lifeline battery.Shocks by BGR army
