Should the hub bearings on a quick change be greased or do they get oil from gear lube. Also I pulled the left axle and there is a bolt in the end of the axle. Is this to set the play in the axle from side to side. If this is correct, how should it be set.

Have to grease hubs oil shouldn't be getting down the tube. Unless you have oil bath hubs in which case fill with oil -
Yes, the bolt on the inside end of the axle tube is used to set the play between the two. There is a spec (I believe no more than 1/8"), but you don't want too much which could result in the splined outer end of the axle grinding into the tube end itself. I just set mine out to the end (outer edge) of the drive plate. Assuming you have a spool, they don't turn independent of each other anyway.Comment

The axle will go in far enough to hit the end of the tube. How long a bolt should it take. With what I see it could use a 1/2" or longer axle. I have only pulled the left side right now.Comment

I have a Winters rear end with 33/35 axles, and I believe each axle has around 1-1.25" of bolt sticking out the end. I put the right side together then adjust the left axle bolt to get the desired end play (for me, flush with the drive plate). I'm sure that's probably not the prescribed method but it has worked for me.Comment

The right hub was full of oil. I didn't see a seal in the tube. Should there be one on the bell end or snout?Comment

there is a seal inside of each bell that seals the spool to the bell. to fill the the hub cavity the seal has to be severely damaged and/or the spool is damaged.Comment
