What is the difference between using standard c/o springs versus barrel springs?

Barrel will typically bow less and most times will have a longer usable stroke before coil bind. Major benefit is less spring bow.

And less likelihood that the spring will rub the shock...but as zero stated, that is usually because of some bowing.
