    Need help with mini-starter

Trying to get the SS done, now having starter issues. Mini starter on a 406, using a flexplate. The teeth of the starter are always just touching the teeth on the flywheel, making a awful metal hitting metal noise when it starts. Tried shims, did not work. Its as if the starter gear is too long. Flywheel is facing correct direction. Any suggestions?

Thanks guys, never had to shim them years back & I forgot they did come with those shims (this starter was on the car when I bought it). Found someone locally that had them, works fine now!
