Cut to fit axles

Need some input on installing cut to fit axles. Im installing a new set of cut to fit axles in a non floater 9 in. I have a full spool. My question is how much of a gap do i need to leave between the axles. Theres a space, about 1/2" or so, between the splines inside the spool, i was thinking of cutting the axles to reach the end of these splines inside the spool.

Get a hold of stock car driver on here. He will be able to help you .

Cut them to leave half inch to 5/8 so you can run a mini spool also with those axles.
