    spring rate increase

is there a way to figure out how much the spring rate will increase due to it being compressed. for example if you were to take a 16 inch 125lb spring and compressed it down to 12 inches, what would the spring rate increase to? thanks

It it is a straight rate wound spring it's rate at 10" would be 125 lb/inch. You would have 500 lbs to compress it 4". It would take an additional 125 lbs to take it to 11"...Like the poster above stated, a progressive spring is a whole different ball game.
