taking lettering off

One of my sponsors changed logos and gave me new lettering ect. What's the best way to remove vinyl lettering from a painted surface?

Try just pealing it up, sometimes it will come right off. A little heat if it doesn't want to come up will help. Your worst problem is if it leaves adhesive residue where the decal was. Rubbing alcohol will take that off but it takes a lot of elbow grease. WD40 will also remove the residue but you will then need to really clean that spot good or your new one won't stick.

They also sell a product called "sticker off" for removing the residue.

Use the WD-40 first,then wipe with Rubbing Alcohol or Prep-Sol..JMO!

Carburetor cleaner! You have to be fast or it will remove the paint, too, though.

Maybe not such a good idea...

I just took some numbers off a old car that has sat for a few years. It sat in the sun all day and I got them started with a single edge razor blade. I pulled on them close to the metal, working them in a rolling motion from side to side. They came off pretty easy, even the adhesive.

heat gun works great. putting a 15 year old hobby stock back on the track. I figured the stickers would have to be sanded off. figured nothing to loose, try the heat gun. worked great.

your local parts store will have an eraser wheel that fits in a drill and zips off that vinyl in a hurry...

I own a decal shop and we use a heat gun and adhesive remover but Geoof off works good also

Which way did you use?

Heat and adhesive remover (brake parts cleaner in this case it won't leave mess behind) for the residual glue. I got it warm and pulled them off by hand so not to damage paint. Overall it worked good.

Heat is all that is needed, even after sitting for years. No rubbing or chemicals, they come right off.
