Local track went USRA! Best USRA stock car motor package...

Was needing some input on what to run with the usra rules. Not looking to go crate. Was wanting to know if i should build big cubes or small and rev her up. Running at Lakeside speedway KS.

a good flat top 406 with any decent head (I like the vortec bowties or eq's). I always had my heads angle milled and got around 13 to 1 compression. I always ran the imca edelbrock intake and a jdr 4412. should get you into the 450hp range which is plenty. imca stockcar guys are about giving away their big cube motors now due to the 360 spec engine. you should be able to get one for next to nothing.

We had good success (a number of wins and a track championship) running a 14.5 to 1 compression 406 with Ported 906 Vortec heads and the Edelbrock 2701 intake.

Sounds like the 400 block bored with some good flowing vortec heads with the performer intake will keep you up front. What about cam specs and the crank, rods etc. I currently have vortec heads that are set up with 600 lift springs but need to be machined to the bigger valves and milled for more compression. I hear that the eagle crank is junk and will come apart. So i was wondering what will work without the Callies price. Thanks for the replies

We've never had problems with an Ohio 4340 crank.

Remember, The 1 3/4 throttle bore is no more. Must be a gauge legal 500 carb now.
