Breaking Driveshafts

Metric chassis with solid engine mounts and rubber transmission mount. It is a new car and to us but has been run before without issues. We are breaking driveshafts in the middle and busting cases on the 3 speeds twice now. I have 1.5" clearance between the yoke and transmission. The first time the transmission and rear end were out of line but the 2nd time things were lined up. We are using stock driveshafts. Our exhaust blows out towards the front ujoint could this cause it to overhear and seize up?

I guess so but we have used the bellhousing before without any trouble.

Seen too much pinion angle do that

Rear trailing arms. Check around the bushings. A bad one will cause what you are talking about. Just my .02.

I am not breaking the gear but I am breaking the trans Case like that and snapping driveshaft in the middle. I found the upper bushings were bad in the rear end today.

I haven't had a drive shaft break in the middle but have had the case and bell housing break. The cure was i had the drive shaft balanced if yours isn't already. Never had any more issues after that. Hope this helps.

Crazy not to balance a drive shaft spinning it 7,000+ rpm.

I have been using a stock driveshaft so the balance should be close.

If you are using a stock driveshaft from a junk yard, it could have been bent when you got it. They use forks to pick cars up under the floor pans and many times get into the driveshaft. Whatever shaft you run, get it balanced.

the face of your bell housing where the trans bolts likely isn't square and flat.. you break the ear on the trans first then the shaft..

if you cant seat the trans fully and easily without the bolts in the bell housing is fit for the scrap pile.

That or cut the motor mounts out and re install them, a rf frame bent up just a little bit will bust up trans also if you have trans mount.

Since you're using solid motor mounts you should also use solid transmission mounts as well. Check your bellhousing and also make sure the pinion us not bent.
