9 inch rear end install help

I'm trying to install a Coleman 9 inch floater in a 1984 monte carlo chassis. The rear end had been under a g-body car as well, but when I go to connect the upper trailing arms, I'm off by 3 inches. The stock upper trailing arms are just over 11 inches. Do I need longer trailing arms or what am I doing wrong?

I have it jacked up with jack stands on each side supporting it. The problem I'm having is the spread of the upper trailing arms being too wide.
