Cam Recommendation

Running a 3/8 mile banked dirt track, Ford 2.3 stock body mustang. Stock bottom end with Keith Black Pistons, head shaved and ported, stock valves...lots of cams available...need more power off the corner...more power overall.
Recommendations?

I like the racer walsh .510 cam in terms of off the shelf w/ a non ported head. Or another off the shelf cam that is good is the .500 Essy cam.

Both very nice grinds if you ask me.

I've been turning 7400 with a 425 lift cam. How hard can I turn a stock bottom end and keep it together?

I had an issue with insufficient lift(way off) with the geometry set correct on a major name cam when we first started.Got blown off by tech suppport.

Been using Schneider cams ever since and I'm happy with them.

Personal taste I suppose,no dyno tests etc to back it up but power is there.Also cams measure as they should,no lobe wear issues plus great personal phone support if you need it..

schneider is very good. I believe they also make the racer walsh cams but I am not 100% positive.

I would shoot for the .480 - .510 range.Will work well with stock valves,OEM bottom.W e always turned our 2.3 8000 - 8200 rpm,all stock bottom end.Never had any problems.

i have ran alot of cams 508 hydro 510 solid 585 jbv solid 571 roller 620 roller 608 roller etc etc at 7500. If its not at least 260 duration this speaking roller you will run out at the end of straight on a 3/8s. Any more then 7600 without it being at least 260 duration is a waste of motor life.

over all cam off the shelf is http://racerwalsh.zoovy.com/product/...--RWA1412.html this on stock 23, light weight 23 etc etc will get you as much as you can handle at 7500 at the end of straight. And it runs out at 770 0ut pulls great to there and on a 3/8s track its enough. hope this helps

if running hydraulic id go with the Schneider 485 lift 292/296 split duration cut on a 105LC. good cam for 1/4-3/8 and still pulls hard at about 7800

If you get the shortblock balanced you can turn a stock bottom end w/ arp 7800 for 20+ nights.
