How do I check tranny ratios?

I am running Nissan rear wheel drives. There is very little info out there to show what the various gear ratios are in the trans. Can anyone give me a heads up on how to try and figure out what i have? I have four diff trans. I have heard in the past that you turn the input so many times and count the output or something. Anyone?

Count the number of turns of the input shaft to turn the output shaft one turn.

I am working with mid 1980s transmissions. 5 speed standard shift.

be nice if u were more spesific. is u runin a 200sx? thares allot of websites for that car and i ran one 2nd was 3rd was 136 and diff is 410.

i think the ratios are the same as they used in the trucks. i have it at home. i'll see if i can find it and post them for you.

there were a couple ratios used.
88-95 2wd trans for the z24 and ka24;
1st 3.32
2nd 1.90
3rd 1.31
the 4sp trans had the same ratios as the 2wd 5sp except for no 5th. the 4sp is also lighter then the 5sp.

4x4 trans for the z24 and ka24;
1st 3.59 or 3.99
2nd 2.25 both
3rd 1.42 both
this is for the fs5w71c 5sp and the f4w71c 4sp.

Note: All the Transmissions Listed are FS5W71C Transmissions.
- The Z31 300ZX also uses the FS5W71C Trans but it has the Same Specs as the KA Trans so don't worry about it.



ALL 240SX FD's are 4.083

S14 SR20DET FD's: Taken from the FSM
M/T = 3.692 (48/13)
A/T = 3.916 (47/12)

S15 SR20DET FD's:
M/T = 3.692 (HLSD)
A/T = 3.916 (VLSD - Same as S14)
