neon gearing

i got a 97 neon sohc 5 speed im gunna race it on a 1/4 mile banked track theres few other guys that race neons out there 1 guy runs 3rd gear and is fast in the grove but dogish in the low lane other neon runs 2nd gear and bangs the rev limiter anybody got any opionions on what gear to run and what size tires

if u were samrt enuf u'd use a 01+ neon trans convert ur car to hyd and w/ a 3.55 diff, u can run 2nd geer on 13's or 14's and have a 6.92 final drive

is the 2nd generation tranny a direct swap ? or what do i all need? thanx for any info

yes and no.

it bolts right in but gen2 uses a hydraulic clutch

found a 2000 tranny 1.95 2nd gear .. besides changen bellhousing whatelse is involved?
do i use my axles? what bout flywheel clutch ect?

that's it, just swap transmission halves. it's all direct bolt in.

by putting the 2nd gen trans in how much rpm diference will there be? thanks for the info

depends on what wheel size, what gear you were running etc.

2nd gen w/355 in 2nd on a 1/4 mile track w. 13" wheels should be 7200-7400rpm

tires i use are 195 70 14 with the 1st gen trans i hit the rev at the finishline so u think 2nd gen trans pull me all the way down the straight?

well, a first gen neon trans in 2nd gear with sohc trans would give you a 7.56:1 and if you have a dohc trans you'd have 2nd gear of 8.40:1 with the gen 2 you'd have a 6.92... and with 205/60/13 tires on a 1/4 mile track would put you at 7200-7400 so you won't hit the rev limiter if you have the 7600 PCM
