I have swapped out 2 mustang 4 speeds only to have them lock into either third or fourth gear and the only way that I know how to get them unlocked is to pull the trans again, take the 10 bolt cover off and push down on the lock plate. Am I doing something wrong here? Was a t5 but would like to run 4 speed in order to get the rpms down in second gear. T5 runs a 2.34 in second while the 4speed runs a 2.14 in second. Used a flyhweel that came from a newer t5 trans. No issues with the t5.

had one that use to do that. as long i i didn't accidently go to 3rd it was ok. never bothered to fix it but i cut out an area of the tunnel and made a new panel with a few bolts i could remove to access the trans top cover. pull the panel and another 10 or 12 bolts and remove the trans top cover and fix it. could repair it in about 10mins.
