I have built a couple heads for 2.5's for the street and with a change in cams the engines were over 200HP at the rear tires NA.

danny, are you talking about the z22 and z24 engines? can be made to run with the fords and toyotas in all but all out classes. i ran a z24 in my nissan hardbody truck.

Ya, the sohc engine. Picked up a nice roller hardbody Have access to a 2.2 out of a pro4. dont know much about it but it has a nice head with a 530 cam. Origionally had dual side drafts on it.What kind of rpms are they safe with. Nephew is going to run it on dirt. I would rather put a ford in it but not sure of the fit. Supposed to be well put together by a pro 4 guy. Just checking to see if I want to go that way.

danny, not sure how your engine was built but with a stock crank, rods, and pistons we would turn our z24 over 7k and that's with a 96mm(3.78) stroke. the z22 has a 4mm shorter stroke so it should be able to turn 7500 easy. a friend put an L20 head on a z22 with better parts and was turning it 8600. they are strong engines and for most classes they will compete with fords or toyotas. i know because at one time i had 2 fords, a toyota and a nissan. run it and your nephew will have a blast. tough trucks, only weak spot was steering linkage but that's easy to fix. the hard body is a wide truck which helps in handling and the torsion bars are like weight jacks. if i ever got another truck it would be a nissan again.

Thanks, Olin, I will keep you posted on the progress. I needed to get some input from someone who has run these.

dan32, what kind of problems did you have with the z24? just about everyone with a nissan truck around here runs a z24 and as long you keep oil and water in them they are about bulletproof. i even put a z24 head on a ka24 three valve shortblock.
danny, what are your engine rules?

olin we kept tossing rods oil temps. was always high and on 3 different short blocks we tried every thing we could think of it was in the late 90's early 2000's but the 22 just out run and out lasted!!
