    what length rods to use?

I have a car that I will be racing with the kmsa and have been told to run 5.9 rods also 5.7 rods and was told to run those by two different major part suppliers.the tracks I'll be running are anywhere from 1/4 to 3/8 mile. I talked to both part suplliers/engine builders and told them the situation of me running a variety of tracks. My thought was split the difference at a 5.8 rod but they both said different. I'm just confused on what rod length to run and why not split the difference in the middle for the variety of tracks?

I'm sure you will get a lot of differing opinions as to which rod length is best. Personally the following is my recomendation for a 3.125" stroke 2300:5.7" for tracks that have a minimum rpm when you pick up the throttle mid corner of less than 4500rpm.5.840" for tracks where the minumum rpm is between 4500rpm and 6000rpm.5.937" for tracks where the minumum rpm is above 6000rpm.For the KMSA I would recomend the 5.840" if you are going to run the same shortblock on the tighter tracks like Moulton as well as the bigger tracks like Green Valley. We (Esslinger) offer 1.850" journal Ultra Low Drag rods available in 5.7", 5.840", and 5.937" that are all under 500 grams. Another thing to keep in mind is the piston durability. The .855" compression height pistons that you would run with the 5.937" rods are more sensetive to detonation. After what I saw at Green Valley last weekend, piston durability from the 5.840" is important. I saw at least 3 shortblocks get hurt with smoked pistons...
